Tattoo of the Maori Tiki symbol, disrespectful for someone not Maori?
I am thinking of getting a tattoo of the Tiki.
I am not Maori, Polynesian or from NZ, but I have read quite a lot of the varying meanings of the symbol and admire it.
Would this be disrespectful, or non-sense for me to use this symbol?
not at all, in fact i think its just the opposite. wanting their symbol because you respect its meaning in their culture is a great sign of respect. i hope you love it when its all done!!
It’s your body. If you like the tattoo then get it. Your not being disrespectful because you, yourself admires the symbol.

You can get any symbol you want. Just think of how many non-Chinese people have Chinese symbols tattooed on them.

yes, it would be considered disrespectful to them. just about every native that has something symbolic to them finds it disrespectful when an outsider takes it or uses it for their own good.
I don’t mean this in offense to anyone, in any racist way, its just an example, and i am just assuming you are white just for the effect of my example-but lets just assume you are caucasian, and you take an african american symbol and tattoo it on yourself. do you think an african american would find that disrespectful?? or do you think they would take it as a compliment???
……..i think you have your answer…..
