As far as offline resources go, a good place to start when you are thinking about how to design your own tattoo, is to make a list of ideas as they pop into your head. You may be out and about and see a tattoo design on someone that appeals to you. Make a note of it! Magazines are also a useful place to get ideas, you may be flicking through a magazine with pictures of celebrities who have a tattoo design that you like.

When writing down your ideas to design your own tattoo, also make a note of where, on your body, you would like it to be. Some popular ones are wrist tattoos, ankle tattoos, a lower back tattoo, a shoulder tattoo, an armband tattoo, and some places not so visible! The design and style of your tattoo will greatly depend on it’s location on your body so keep this in mind when jotting all your ideas down.

Whatever you decide, remember this is permanent so make sure you do plenty of research before you go ahead and commit. You should also know that many people don’t just stop at one! Once you know how to design your own tattoo you could find this quite addictive!

Amanda’s Koi Tattoo Cover-Up By Steve Hayes

Tattoo Challange
Image by Blind Insect via Flickr

4 hours of Steven Hayes’s work on Amanda’s Koi fish cover-up tattoo of an old school styled Libra symbol…boiled down to about 9 minutes…. Color quality is a little low so that I could get a file size small enough to upload.

The tattoo covers the top of her foot and works it’s way up her ankle.

What is your honest opinion of small angel wings or an angel tattoo on an ankle?

Also, does anyone have a link to a picture with someone who has either a small tattoo of angel wings or an angel on their ankle?

i don’t like the idea of wings on the ankle at all! i mean, erm, what animal grows wings on their ankle?!

looking for a tattoo with tibetan language lettering?

would want a tattoo lettered in tibet language from top to bottom on my left calf. was wondering if anyone can translate for me or give me some ideas ? i want the word Respect to be done, in tibet language of course.

Unless you personally speak the language you should not ask for a translation…do the research yourself. For all you know you could end up with something different written on your arm.

Is there a website that I can use to help design a specific maori tattoo?

I want to get a tattoo that will be located across my shoulders, that is the whakapapa of my two tribes. I wanted to know if there was anywhere that I can look to find information or designs for each tribe.

Here is a website that has a maori tattoo gallery. You might be able to get some help in your design there. I dont know if that is what you are thinking of or looking for.
